Eco-Challenge 9.0 seeks environmental solutions
Washington DC, September 1, 2017 - Reducing the impact that the industry has on the environment, is part of the objectives of the announcement of Eco-Challenge 9.0 within the 13th edition of the Talent and Innovation Competition of the Americas (TIC Americas 2018). This has been announced by the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT), PepsiCo, cbc, Postobón and the Organization of American States (OAS).
The program seeks to promote the development, identify, recognize and reward business solutions that are innovative, sustainable and viable, and which have an impact on the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Eco-Challenge is open to young people between 18 and 34 who are citizens or legal residents of the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean, whose teams will have the opportunity to compete for seed capital of US $ 5,000, the scholarship to travel to the Finals in Peru, among other incentives that make them among the continent's most outstanding young people in environmental solutions.
For this edition, we are looking for teams capable of developing and proposing viable, scalable and ready-to-invest solutions in the following three sub-categories:
Solutions that increase access to; nutritious and adequate food, beverages at affordable and healthy prices that positively support the nutrition of low-income populations, especially in rural areas.
Solutions that respond facts between food and people involve the protection of the environment, and the development of sustainable ways of producing and consuming food.
Solutions that reduce gender inequality, by supporting access to the labor market for young people and women, in response to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The registered teams will have access at all times to mentoring, virtual trainings and a series of business resources and networks of contacts. A select international jury will select the best 15 proposals to compete in the TIC Americas and Eco-Challenge 2018 Finals to be held in Lima, Peru, as part of the Fifth Forum of Youth of the Americas, official activity of the VIII Summit of the Americas.
PepsiCo will deliver three hemispheric awards. For its part, CBC will award the Eco-Challenge Central America Award; while Postobón will do the same for Eco-Challenge Colombia.

Since 2009, YABT, in partnership with PepsiCo Bebidas Latinoamérica, has incorporated Eco-Challenge, constituting itself as the special category of environmental innovation within TIC Americas, thus supporting the development of business projects or ideas that promote sustainable development in the Western Hemisphere. In 2013, CBC joined as a sponsor of the Eco-Challenge Special Prize for Central America and in 2014, Postobón also joined as a sponsor of the Eco-Challenge Colombia Award. To date, the Eco-Challenge has received 9,397 proposals, presented by 11,879 young people from 31 countries.
