Entrepreneurship: Central theme in the Annual Meetings of the World Bank and IMF in Peru.
Washington DC, October 3, 2015 – There will be a gathering in Lima, Peru, next Thursday, October 8, to discuss "Young entrepreneurs Engines of Sustainable Growth" during the Annual Meetings of the World Bank and IMF. The event will convene the World Bank President Jim Young Kim, the actor Sean Penn and successful entrepreneurs from different regions of the world. The goal of the event is to discuss entrepreneurship focus on the agenda of the next Annual Meetings.
The central panel will have the participation of Allen Blue, Co-founder of LinkedIn, the social network's most important time job profiles, and the young Peruvian Mariana Costa, Co-Founder of Laboratoria business focused on social inclusion of women through the use of technology and education. There will also be the participation of British entrepreneur Ashish J. Thakkar, Co-Founder of Mara, an African multi-sector company operating in technology, financial services, manufacturing, real estate industries and agriculture. They will share the panel with Blanca Treviño, president and CEO of Softtek, the largest independent provider of IT services in Latin America.
The President of the World Bank will participate in this youth event, which aims to investigate how youth has become engines of innovation, economic growth, and positive impact on their societies.
In order to provide inputs for discussion on youth and entrepreneurship, the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) has developed a report, which will be presented during the meetings in Lima. This report comes from the contribution made by thousands of young people who participated in the various channels that the YABT made available for the past four months: 3 global dialogues in English, French and Spanish, 25 national dialogues covering 5 continents and more than 1,000 responses to virtual surveys.
The meeting will be held on Thursday, October 8, at the National Museum Room Los Incas, from 2 pm to 3.30 pm. The event can be followed online at live.worldbank.org
The Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) is a nonprofit organization that works in cooperation with the Organization of American States (OAS). It promotes and implements programs that encourage entrepreneurship in the Americas as a way to combat poverty and seek better opportunities for young people. The Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group (WBG) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) each year bring together heads of central banks, finance ministers and development, private sector executives and representatives of academic circles in order to analyze the progress done by both the IMF and the World Bank Group.
