Announcement of the 2017 Young Woman Entrepreneur, Nadia Sánchez – Founder of She Is
Washington DC, May 1st, 2017 –The Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) is proud to announce the 2017 Young Woman Entrepreneur, a recognition that will be awarded during the finals of the Talent and Innovation Competition of the Americas (TIC Americas) in the framework of the Organization of American States (OAS) General Assembly to be held in June 2017 in Mexico. This award is possible thanks to our partnership with Pepsico Latin America, an actor committed to achieve gender equality.
We would like to deeply congratulate Nadia Sánchez, 2016 TIC Americas alumni and founder of She Is, an organization from Colombia with the aim to empower women to close the inequality gap for populations that have been vulnerable along history. She Is generates and fosters women-led endeavors and strengthens their abilities to generate income and employment. The organization facilitates market access and commercialization channels for products developed by women participating in their programs, in order to bolster their acquisition power and contribute to the inclusivity efforts in peace processes.
In Nadia’s words: “Thanks to the tools offered by TIC Americas and YABT, we have been able to strengthen and boost our business structure including the social, economic and cultural levels. This hybrid economic model of foundation and company allows us to create spaces where women are heard, raise their voices and complete the global value chain.”
The model developed by the young entrepreneur and her team, implements social and productive programs focused on business education in vulnerable contexts and conflict areas, helping to promote the visibility of other women entrepreneurs. Currently, She Is has impacted more than 100 women victims of the armed conflict in Colombia, more than 50 women in indigenous communities and more than 75 in vulnerable situations. The organization is expanding to other countries such as Panama, Mexico and Peru.
Nadia will receive a full scholarship to attend the 2017 TIC Americas finals, as well as a US$5,000 capital.
“On behalf of the partners that make this award possible, I congratulate Nadia and the entire She Is team for their work and impact. This recognition is in response to the excellent work that they have been developing and a clear proof of the partner organizations’ commitment to support women’s empowerment and their access to the labor market”, said Luis Viguria, CEO of YABT.
