TIC Americas: Beyond its Finals
Washington DC, August 4, 2014 ⎯ The TIC Americas is an international platform that supports entrepreneurship and accelerates businesses aimed at young entrepreneurs and start-ups in the Americas. The TIC Americas is a program implemented by the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) with the support of the Organization of American States, PepsiCo and CBC. This year, the IX edition took place in Paraguay, whereby 24 teams from 16 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean competed for the Social, Economic and Environmental categories.
TIC Americas seeks to strengthen the business proposals of all young participants during and after the competition. In doing so, we aim to foster more prosperous and inclusive societies within the Western Hemisphere. As part of the follow-up activities, YABT actively supports all young participants seeking to improve their business projects and pursue new opportunities for their business after TIC Americas Finals. For YABT, the TIC Americas represents the beginning of a collaborative relationship with no expiration date.
In the past two months, representatives of the teams of Colorblind Design and Sistema Permacultural participated in YABT's Business Labs in Dominican Republic and Guatemala, respectively. Moreover, Gerontovida Project leader was selected as the spokesperson of her university in a meeting with Former President of the United States Bill Clinton. Furthermore, YouVo seeks to use their cash award to implement its anti-bullying platform in two schools in northern areas of Chile. Also, YouVo team members are currently working with Microsoft to accelerate its business. Separately, Pukavy's team members are further researching on the modification process of cassava by pursuing a PhD at the National Council of Scientific and Technological Research in Argentina.
Additionally, two of the winning teams of the Eco-Challenge –Greenetics, Iluméxico - and the winner of the social innovation category –YouVo – will participate in the Global Entrepreneurship competition, Global TIC, that will take place in Taiwan.
