YABT participated in the Committee on Migration Issues Forum
Washington DC, United States, May 19, 2015— On May 18, representatives of the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) participated in the Forum on Challenges and Opportunities of Migration Flows in the Western Hemisphere organized by the Committee of Migration Affairs (CMA) of the Organization of American States (OAS).
As part of the follow-up process of the recommendations that emerged from the Declaration of the IV Young Americas Forum, developed within the framework of the VII Summit of the Americas, YABT supports initiatives and processes related to the central issues addressed in these hemispheric events, in this case the migration issue.
"We understand that migration is a complex issue and, therefore, requires comprehensive solutions. Youth identified as major causes of migration the lack of opportunities and economic welfare in the country, insecurity and political instability", they expressed in the Declaration they adopted last April in Panama.
The recommendations and proposals that the young people of the Americas stated in the Declaration of Panama was in line with those of the Panel of the Migration Issues Forum, which included: H.E. Jose Maria Argueta, Ambassador, Permanent Mission of Guatemala to the OAS; Alfonso Aguilar, International Human Rights Group, USA; Maria Moreno, International Organization for Migration (IOM); Rodolfo Cruz Piñeiro, Colegio de la Frontera Norte, México; José María Román, Fundación Ciudadanía y Valores, Spain; and Tamar Jacoby, Immigration Works, USA.
The Young Americas Forum was established as an official event for youth of the Hemisphere to discuss the central themes of the presidential Summit- " Prosperity with Equity: The challenge of cooperation in the Americas", held on April 8 and 9 in the El Panama Hotel in Panama City, Panama within the framework of the VII Summit of the Americas.
