Guatemala hosts Business Lab with focus on Innovation

Guatemala City, Guatemala, November 14th, 2016.- The Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) and the Ministry of Labour and Social Prevision of the Republic of Guatemala, inaugurated this Monday the Business Laboratory Workshop focused on Innovation, under the motto "Encouraging the creation of new jobs". This activity extended to November 18th, at the facilities of INTECAP, is part of the events developed by YABT within the framework of the Global Entrepreneurship Week 2016.

This program aims to build capacities to improve business competitiveness, through the management of innovation processes and environment. It is leaded by Solomon Vilensky and Marcelo Firstman, specialists from the MASHAV Carmel Center of Training, as part of the technical cooperation between YABT and the Government of Israel, with the support of the Organization of American States (OAS), and the Ministry of Labour and Social Prevision of Guatemala.

"Currently, we live in a competitive world that is constantlychanging and which seeks the young people´s commitment for the design of new and best strategies atday by day margin", said the representative of the OAS in Guatemala, Ambassador Milagros Martínez.

This Workshop contributes to the efforts of various sectors that promote entrepreneurship as an engine for job creation and empowerment of young people in Guatemala. This activity involvesmore than 30 people from organizations that provide support to the entrepreneurshipcommunity, as also young entrepreneurs with business initiatives of potential growth.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Prevision gives priority to decent employment and entrepreneurship. Moreover,in congruence with the Sustainable Development Goals and the National Development Plan, is promoting a National Policy of Decent Employment, which focuses on the articulation of strategies and programs that support the axis of “development of SMEs, tourism, housing, and decent work", said Griselda González, Deputy Minister of Labour. 

"The implementation of a business contributes with the economy through the creation of jobs, especially in youth," highlights the report titled "Young Entrepreneurs as Engines of the Sustainable Growth", published by the YABT and the World Bank, in October 2015.

Innovation laboratories are "practical training" workshops in which, through corporate exercises, participants acquire skills for innovation.The workshopis focused on the training of trainers at the promotion of entrepreneur’s topic, those who act at the level of the incubators, centers of innovation, universities, technological and industrial parks, productive sector, among other actors in the innovation ecosystem.
