“One day idea creation workshop”
Washington DC, December 9th, 2016 - The Young Americas Business Trust (YABT), Organization of American States and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), in collaboration with the following local partners Youth Can Do It (YCDI) Ministry of Education, Youth & Information, Jamaica Diaspora Institute (JDI) Start Social held the Mini Business Labs and Certification Ceremony December 3, 2016, at the Mona School of Business in Kingston, Jamaica.
The one day idea creation and awareness, had 49 participants present. Through the efforts of the our local partners, Ms. Liane Mc Naughton - Youth Can Do It, Ms Ruth Lawrence and Mr. Davey Haughton - Ministry of Education, Youth & Information, Ms Rachael Callaghan - Start Social, Ms Dawnette Pryce Thompson and team - Jamaica Diaspora Institute we were able to surpass the estimated number of participants expected for the workshop. There were a diverse cross section of participants which included young entrepreneurs, National Police Youth Club, Rotaract club members (as part of their mandate for personal development), U.W.I Mona students, Youth Clubs, Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, M & M Nursing Home, Voices for Jamaica Today Foundation and many more.
Mr. Jermaine Henry, a CIC Alumni of 2015 was one of the judges of the pitch competition. He later shared his experience as an Alumni and encouraged each participant to take full advantage of the opportunities provided by YABT. He recently returned from Kenya from a business trip. This trip was as a result of the officials and networking opportunities during the finals of the TIC Americas 2015 held in Panama. He expressed his profound gratitude to the YABT for the opportunity, first for organizing programs such as CIC, BootCamp, Mini and Business Labs and secondly the tremendous support he received and is still receiving.
Complimenting the Mini Lab was the Business Lab Trainer Certification ceremony of Mr.Michael-Edward James Dr. Olivene Burke and Ms. Melesha Manderson. They are now certified Business Labs trainers in Jamaica, having met the requirements for Business Labs Trainers certification. They all replicated over four business labs throughout Jamaica since receiving the training in November 2015.
"The Mini Business Lab was very edifying and informative. I have always been very business-minded and this session served as a confirmation for me to enter into entrepreneurship in the near future. This lab was confidence building and very motivating. I look forward to more sessions of this nature" said Oral Lawson a young participant.
