YABT present at the Entrepreneurship Innovation festival

Bogota, November 30th, 2015 -

Within the framework of the R3inventa Colombia 2015, during the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), The National University of Colombia (UNAL) hosted on November 19th an Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Panel.

Edgar Maestre, Program Officer for Latin America of the Young Americas Business Turst (YABT), was part of the main panel. He shared the stage with iNNpulsa Colombia’s Managing Director, Daniel Quintero Calle; young entrepreneurs such as Sergio Zuluaga, WEEE Global CEO; and Guillermo Aguirre, Datum 73 CEO and Eco-Challenge 2012 finalist. Camilo Santana, UNAL’s Entrepreneurship Unit Coordinator, moderated this panel.

The main purpose of this meeting was to generate solutions between panelists and supporters for the pressing problems within the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Colombia. This generated an open dialogue where panelists answered questions about business models, access to market, and deficiencies that entrepreneurs encounter during the first stages of developing their business ideas.

Young entrepreneurs participated in this panel by sharing personal stories and practical advices to successfully transition into the business life. Quintero Calle shared his experience as an entrepreneur, encouraging people to be persistent in the pursuit of their dreams and taking advantage of existing support programs.

“An entrepreneur must generate competences in order to become an expert in his/her sector and have the ability to negotiate” said Edgar Maestre. “Taking into consideration modern globalization, the challenge is to create our own market with innovative proposals. The ability to reinvent is essential to succeed”, he added.

In front of a group of students and lecturers, Maestre presented the Talent and Innovation Competition of the Americas (TIC Americas). He explained the requirements of this hemispheric support program for entrepreneurship and business acceleration, which aims to empower young people between 18 and 34. TIC Americas 11th Edition and Eco-Challenge 7.0 are composed of three categories: (1) Start-up, (2) SMEs and (3) Eco-Challenge –the environmental innovation category. Registrations will remain open until January 15th, 2016.
