In preparation for the IV Summit of the Americas, the Young Americas Business Trust, with Summits of the Americas Secretariat and the Organization of American States, organized the "Young Entrepreneurs of the Americas Program: Forum for the Participation in the process of Civil Society in the Fourth Summit of the Americas." It took place on August 2005 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
During the preparatory process for the Summit and the Forum, more than 8,000 participants responded and submitted an Action Plan focused on decent work for young people. Making its contribution to the central theme of the Fourth Summit of the Americas: "Creating Jobs to Fight Poverty and Strengthen Democratic Governance."
This first Forum gathered hundreds of young entrepreneurs, businessmen, representatives of civil society and the private sector of the Member Countries of the OAS, as result of joint efforts between youth and local and international partners.
This was the first opportunity that young people had to present their recommendations, opinions and actions to the Heads of State and Government of the Hemisphere. Ushering a new platform that allows young people to take up the challenge of being promoters of strategies and actions that determine their future.
Over 150 young entrepreneurs, agencies and organizations concluded the adoption of the "Declaration of Buenos Aires" that reflects the ideas and goals of young people present at the Forum to continue working and create employment opportunities in their countries and communities.
Within its commitment are: To encourage all Member States to develop and implement policies and programs aimed at mobilizing the talents and energy of young people in the Americas, creating entrepreneurship programs and business training for young people. Strive to create decent jobs for young people; especially those living in conditions of exclusion or are part of vulnerable groups.
They also agreed to work with public and private organizations to increase access to information and communication technologies, especially Internet, in an effort to build information systems, stability and resources needed to generate successful businesses.
