The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Subregional Office for Barbados and the OECS and the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) hosted the Caribbean Innovation Challenge (CIC) 2013 Finals, Expo and Awards Ceremony in Barbados this past 25 and 26 of April 2013. During the two days of the CIC 2013 Finals the qualified teams participated in a number of training workshops, showcased their projects at an international expo and went through an evaluation process by a panel of international experts, with the winners announcement having taken place on April 26th at the CIC 2013 Awards Ceremony.
In his speech, Amb. Ramdin said: "It is essential that young people have potential in today's society. Youth makes up more than half of the world population and it is our obligation to take care of our young people, which is why at the Organization of American States we are committed to the prosperity of young people in the Americas."
After the Opening Ceremony, Amb. Ramdin toured the CIC 2013 Expo and personally met the finalists of the CIC 2013 competition. In his opening remarks, Amb. Ramdin addressed the young entrepreneurs: "Congratulations to all those who participated in the CIC and I welcome the CIC 2013 Winners in Antigua, Guatemala…finally, be bold and have courage and you will be future leaders of your communities."
