During the Opening Agenda on April 26th welcome remarks were given by Ms. Sherry Tross, Executive Secretary for Integral Development*, Organization of American States; H.E. John Beale, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Barbados to the OAS; Lara Blanco, UNDP Deputy Representative; and H.E. Amiram Magid, Ambassador to Caribbean States Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Israel.
On the evening of the same day, at the Closing and Awards Ceremony, the following gave closing remarks: Ms. Sherry Tross, Executive Secretary for Integral Development, Organization of American States; H.E. John Beale, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Barbados to the OAS; and Paula Mohamed, Program Manager, UNDP Barbados and the OECS.
Ms. Tross played an active role in the CIC 2013 Finals, taking the opportunity to meet the Finalists at the Expo during the VIP tour. In her closing speech, Ms. Tross expressed her support for the development of Caribbean youth: "The Caribbean region has tremendous talent and amazing capacity. We need to work with these ideas and create an opening that turns dreams into reality. We will all be inspired in our own way as innovators ourselves or supporters to promote and support our youth, toward prosperity, stability and governance in our region. We, at the Organization of American States, are committed to keep working with you and turning your dreams into reality."
The CIC is designed to develop opportunities for young people in the Caribbean and promote entrepreneurship in the region. Additionally, it looks to further integrate the Western Hemisphere by having the 6 Winners of the CIC 2013 competing in the Talent and Innovation Challenges of the Americas (TIC Americas 2013) in Antigua, Guatemala. Ms. Tross is among the special guests invited to participate in the finals of the TIC Americas 2013 to take place on June 2-3 in Antigua, Guatemala within the framework of the XLIII OAS General Assembly.
