Eco-Entrepreneur 2013: Invitation to the Week2Grow Expo

The Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) and PepsiCo invite our network of young entrepreneurs and professionals in the field of entrepreneurship and innovation to the Week2Grow Expo of the Eco-Entrepreneur 2013 that will take place on August 16, 2013 at the Headquarters of the Organization of Americas States (OAS) in Washington DC (RSVP).

Earlier in June, YABT and PepsiCo announced the 15 teams that were selected to participate in the first edition of the Eco-Entrepreneur, a new program that provides support in the implementation and expansion of projects focused on environmental issues and that have previously participated in one of the editions of the Eco-Challenge, a special category of awards within the Talent and Innovation Challenges of the Americas (TIC Americas). The beneficiaries were chosen among a pool of 3,000 teams eligible to participate in the program and were selected by an international committee of sustainable development experts.

The program is developed in 4 phases: 1) Selection Process; 2) Assessment and Local Support; 3) Week2Grow; 4) Follow-up. The participants are currently benefitting from the second phase of the program by connecting with their local NexLinks Mentors, who in turn are assessing the selected projects and aiding their improvement through Personalized Mentoring Sessions, with the support from the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, University of Oxford. On July 16th, YABT organized a Webinar for the Mentors to provide orientation and assist them in the support they are providing to the young entrepreneurs, in preparation for the Week2Grow component of Eco-Entrepreneur

On August 12-16th, 2013, the organizers will host the Week2Grow, an intensive training week designed and catered especially for the program beneficiaries. Week2Grow will explore four areas of training: Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Business & Innovation, and Sustainability. The teams will receive both theoretical and practical training, advice and participate in knowledge sharing activities as well as hands-on workshops to help them identify areas and methods of improvement in their projects. The young entrepreneurs will then have the opportunity to apply the newly acquired knowledge and skills through featuring their ideas at the Expo on August 16th. Not only will they have the benefit of meeting other entrepreneurs, but also will gain international visibility, build new networks and get to know potential partners, investors and clients.

Eco-Entrepreneur was created as a follow-up program to the Eco-Challenge Category of TIC Americas. In 2009, PepsiCo and YABT partnered to create the Eco-Challenge, a category of awards within TIC Americas, focused on innovative projects that offer creative solutions to environmental problems. The competition has grown progressively since its first edition, where 300 teams from across the region registered to participate. In 2013, Eco-Challenge saw registrations from 1,292 teams representing 26 countries, demonstrating the growing involvement of youth in creating innovative solutions to environmental issues.
