These "hands-on" workshops, taking place from August 20-24, 2012, are based on experiential learning exercises, inspiring action and encouraging young people to develop their ideas into real businesses. During the Business Labs, participants will identify the challenges of business creation and will develop skills to create green and cultural enterprises that help address the challenges facing their communities and their nations. The "Business Labs focused on Green Enterprises" is hosted in Paramaribo, Suriname, at the Cultural Centrum Suriname, and the "Business Labs focused on Cultural Enterprises" is taking place in Roseau, Dominica, at the Garraway Hotel.
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Barbados and the OECS and the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) partner to implement the entrepreneurship component in a larger UNDP project called: Youth-Innovation (Youth-IN): A Caribbean network for youth development, which promotes youth INclusion, youth INnovation, youth INterest and youth INvolvement. Participants will be eligible to compete at the upcoming Caribbean Innovation Challenge, a regional competition promoting innovation, entrepreneurial initiatives and key resources for young people in the Caribbean.
This unique methodology offers an opportunity for young people to gain an understanding of eco-friendly enterprises and how to start a business that contributes to sustainable economic development. The course will offer technical skills and advice on business planning, marketing, branding and evaluation of potential clients and markets.
The Business Labs are held in collaboration with international and national partners such as the Mount Carmel International Training Center MCTC / MASHAV, the Ministry of Youth and the Women's Business Group Foundation in Suriname, and the Ministry of Youth and the Dominica Youth Business Trust in Dominica.
