Panama City, Panama – August 2-3, 2013, ideas and creativity were put to work by and audience of young people during the Workshop on Business Ideas of the I Seminar-Workshop USMA Emprende program. The workshop took place at the Catholic University Santa María la Antigua (USMA) Graduate Center for Research and focused on social innovation, with instruction by Mark Anderson from the Glasgow Caledonian University of Scotland.
The Seminar-Workshop was developed within the framework of the BUILD Project underway in Central America and organized by USMA with collaboration from various organizations that foster entrepreneurship, therefore bringing forth their expertise and enriching the program content to achieve the activity's objectives. It is therefore that the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) and the Panama Business Accelerator (PBA), part of the City of Knowledge Foundation, joined forces to deliver the Workshop Developing Your Business Idea.
Andrés León (AEP) and Edgar Maestre (YABT) were the trainers on this occasion, focusing on creating a space for the participants to understand the critical elements and steps that define the path to the development of a successful business idea through detecting opportunities that surround them. To achieve this, León and Maestre presented the steps needed to conceptualize and validate a business idea, complementing this with techniques such as StoryBoard, Elevator Pitches and others, therefore creating a dynamic environment between the participants. This workshop was preceded by a Workshop on Entrepreneurial Habits and Opportunity Detection by Lourdes Navarro from Centre Empretec de Desarrollo Emprendedor (CEDE).
Day one was finalized with a story-telling exercise, where Young entrepreneurs shared their experience regarding business start-ups, as was the case of the participants from the Voces Vitales Panamá program. This also included a presentation by Julio Cornejo from Mobiliario Selecto, a young entrepreneur invited by YABT and a video testimonial from Yasmín Quezada from PISAJUSA Export, a panelist during the Entrepreneurship for Development event at the United Nations Headquarters in New York in November 2012.
