On September 4, 2013, the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) in partnership with the Programme for Adolescent Mothers (PAM) conducted a Mini Business Lab Workshop: From Idea to Action for thirteen (13) teenage mothers. These youth actively participated in the workshop to work towards developing their entrepreneurial skills, therefore giving them the possibility to open new economic doors for their families and communities.
From Idea to Action are 1-day workshops that are designed to give their participants an overview on the development of a business model and encourage them to think as entrepreneurs. While providing hands-on tools, Mini Business Labs are strongly focused on the creation of ideas and brainstorming. These are a first step towards the development of an entrepreneurial spirit – later honed within the framework of the 5-day Business Lab workshops and further improved in the preparation stages for the Caribbean Innovation Challenge (CIC) submissions.
The Programme for Adolescent Mothers (P.A.M.) began in 1994 through the support of UNICEF/UNFPA and the Government of Grenada and opened its doors to the first group of young women in April 1995. It was an initiative of the Grenada National Coalition for the Rights of the Child and was managed by GRENSAVE. In 2009, P.A.M. began the process to become an independent NGO. The Center Manager, Ms. Alva Lawrence was very pleased with the level of participation from the students and with the business ideas they were able to generate through the session. A similar workshop is being planned for the other center in St. Andrew's later this month.
Upcoming Opportunities The program will continue providing training to young people in the region. Please find the upcoming workshops and registration contacts below; however, we encourage you to check back frequently as more opportunities will be announced soon.
