Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, June 12, 2015 - Today is the official launch of Startup Weekend in Trinidad and Tobago; a space to work on as a team, validate your concept idea, build a viable product, and present your work for an opportunity to be awarded one of the winners! .
Winning ideas will be awarded the opportunity to be part of the REACH Caribbean Innovation Competition; an international entrepreneur competition and business start-up accelerator platform for young people. The competition incorporates “before and after“ stages, focusing on training and mentoring as preparation for the competition, and providing follow-up services that include access to funding, networking activities, internships and further opportunities –which are key support services for young entrepreneurs.
With financing from the IDB’s Regional Public Goods Initiative, the REACH Project is being executed by the University of the West Indies and in partnership with the World Intellectual Property Organization and the Young Americas Business Trust.
The IDB, through the Demand Solutions Model, is seeking to foster a culture of innovation in Latin America and the Caribbean that will encourage new approaches towards addressing development challenges, while generating an active dialogue on innovation, creativity, and calculated risk-taking.
