OAS and YABT participate in seminar of the Ministry of Education of Panama

Panama City, December 5, 2019. The Ministry of Education of Panama held the Seminar on “Integration Training for Good Practices in the Management of Regional Educational Communities”, held in the City of Knowledge and with the participation of around 100 officials from all over the country.

The seminar was attended by teachers and officials from schools within the Republic, technical and administrative staff of the Ministry of Education, with a select group of national and international speakers.

Mr. Edgar Maestre, Program Director for Latin America of the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT); and César Pacheco, a member of the Office of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Panama, participated with the presentation entitled “Entrepreneurship Projections for the empowerment of parents in favor of their children”, which highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship, innovation, citizen participation and technology in favor of strengthening regional educational communities.

These types of initiatives help strengthen regional educational communities and represent a substantial contribution to the follow-up and achievement of Objective #4 (Quality Education) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Likewise, it contributes to the efforts of the OAS within the framework of the Inter-American Educational Agenda, adopted during the IX Inter-American Meeting of Ministers of Education, held in The Bahamas in February 2017.

Maestre and Pacheco, focused their interventions on publicizing various opportunities within the YABT and the OAS, related to education, human development and the economic and social empowerment of young people, with the intention of generating connection channels between the patterns of entrepreneurship in the continent and the field of education in its different aspects.

Likewise, they dedicated a space to show cases of startup successes in the EduTech sector in Latin America, and beneficiaries of programs such as the Talent and Innovation Competition of the Americas (TIC Americas), as well as resources available to support the work of the teachers in the classroom, and the exchange of good educational practices with the rest of the OAS Member States.
