Washington D.C., April 1, 2020 – The 8thedition of the Caribbean Innovation Competition (CIC) is now closed as of March 31st 2020, with a total of 135 proposals presented from 17 Caribbean countries. The Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) would like to thank all the entrepreneurs who participated in this initial stage of the program, where they had the opportunity to present their business and project ideas in CIC 8.0, one of the categories of the XV Talent and Innovation Competition of the Americas (TIC Americas).
The current edition of TIC Americas presented new challenges discussed and faced on a global scale. In the Caribbean Innovation Competition edition this year, entrepreneurs had the opportunity to present possible solutions that can help the Caribbean region adjust to the realities of Climate Change.
It is important to highlight the invaluable support of the Organization of American States (OAS) - including its offices across the region, and the large network of collaborators and partner organizations of YABT.
The next stage for the TIC Americas program will be the evaluation of the project ideas, evaluated by an international group of online qualified judges. They will provide feedback, mentoring to the projects evaluated, and score these project ideas in accordance to the criteria of each category of the program. YABT will announce the list of Finalist teams by May 1, through its web pages and social media platform. More information and details about the Finals will be announced soon.
CIC is a driver for brilliant and innovative ideas that come from Caribbean entrepreneurs who also seek to contribute with the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These entrepreneurs develop new business models to help both mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change, through solutions with added value for strategic sectors that promote the sustainable economic growth of the Caribbean communities.
