The Young Americas Business Trust (YABT), a non profit international organization that works in cooperation with the Organization of the American States (OAS) to promote the development of young entrepreneurs in the areas of Leadership and Networking, Training, Technology and Strategic Alliances, executes the following component of the Migration and Development Program: Initiatives to stimulate local development and facilitate access to local markets for youth at risk to migrate.

This project aims to develop and promote entrepreneurship among young people living in rural areas under low income; therefore they can create their own businesses efficiently using available resources in their local communities. The activities that comprise this project include:

1.- Diagnostic of current conditions, reasons for youth migration and mapping of organizations working in the field of youth and migration.

2.- Compilation and documentation of national and international case studies, results and best practices on youth migration for building on successful strategies and increasing international cooperation while designing a plan on youth skills training.

3.-Preparation of action plan for increasing migrant youth participation in existing programs , designing new programs and expanding toolkits for organizations working with youth.

Discussion Table "Youth on the Move"

A panel discussion entitled "Youth on the Move" was carried out during the Forum of the Americas in the Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago as an official event of the V Summit of the Americas to connect migration experts with more 300 young people who gathered to discuss and debate the issues presented in the Summit and also about the issues they face in their countries every day.

"International Videoconference "Youth Migration in Latin America and the Caribbean"

Under the Migration and Development Program of the Executive Secretariat for Integral Development (SEDI) of the OAS, YABT held an International Videoconference concerning "Youth Migration in Latin America" on August 4, 2009, with the participation of Colombia, Ecuador, United States, Mexico and Panama, within the hub of the OAS Headquarters in Washington, DC.

Discussion Session "Youth on the Move"

During the competition TIC Americas and TIC Honduras in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on May 30 2009 further consultation was made on the topic "Migration and Youth" with the participation of the teams of both competitions; where the participants gave their opinions on the issue through discussion sessions.

Pilot Project "Management Skills for development in Migrant Youth"

From August 31st until September 4th 2009, was conducted a Business Lab titled: Management Skills for Development in Migrant Youth focused on young migrants or at risk of migrating and touched topics of relevance for young people considering migration as an alternative to the problems social and economic problems.
