Panama City, January 28th, 2015 — YABT, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Panama and partners invite the Panamanian youth to apply and participate in the National Youth Dialogue as part of the preparatory process of the IV Young Americas Forum that will take place in the framework of activities of the VII Summit of the Americas held in Panama in April of this year.
This dialogue will take place next March 5th at the City of Knowledge with the aim of encouraging participation among young leaders across Panama to raise the voice of youth coming from different backgrounds of the country and collect their opinions and suggestions regarding the theme of this summit "Prosperity with Equity: The Challenge of Cooperation in the Americas" which emanates eight core topics: security, migration, education, health, energy, environment, citizen participation and democratic governance.
The Young Americas Forum is a program developed by the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) over a decade ago, where young leaders as social actors actively participate in the processes of the Summits of the Americas. The National Youth Dialogue of Panama is organized by YABT in its role as the Technical Secretariat of the Forum; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Panama, City of Knowledge Foundation; Global Shapers Organization in Panama City; and United Nations in Panama who joined forces to empower young people as key social actors of the Civil Society.
"In order to achieve inclusive social development agreements, we must assure that everyone is on board by implementing an inclusive and participatory process", asserted Maria Luisa Navarro, Vice-minister responsible of Foreign Affairs, on the decision of the Panamanian Government to develop national dialogues towards the VII Summit of the Americas".
"Amid the challenges that faces our region in health, education, security, migration, energy, environment, citizen participation and democratic governance, youth plays an important role in coming up with effective solutions" added the Vice-minister.
The contributions of the National Youth Dialogues will lay the groundwork to address national challenges related to the Summit’s core topics, which will be incorporated into regional reports and the draft of the Final Declaration, while keeping a channel open for young Panamanians to get involved in this hemispheric process.
“At YABT, we thank the support of the Government of Panama and local organizations that support the continuation of our work that started ten years earlier with the aim of fostering prosperity in the Western Hemisphere and transforming the youth into a social actor and partner to guarantee social and economic development in our communities”, declared YABT Program Manager Edgar Maestre.
This open call to apply for the National Dialogue of Panama will remain open until February 10, 2015. Young people interested in participating can complete a registration form in the following website: http://bit.ly/1CLd1yT
