Cancun, Mexico, June 18, 2017 - The finals of the XII edition of TIC Americas were inaugurated last Sunday, June 18 in Cancun, Mexico. 30 finalist teams from 17 countries of the continent are participating in the Talent and Innovation Competition of the Americas (TIC Americas) Finales, within the framework of the 47th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS).
Young people from Latin America and the Caribbean between the ages of 18 and 34 attend the contest. They have innovative businesses in the social, economic and environmental fields. Youth from the 17 participating countries were chosen after an arduous selection process where almost 3,500 projects from 39 countries were presented in all their categories.
The finalists of TIC Americas presented their projects in front of international judges, leaders of our region’s entrepreneurship ecosystem. This evaluation will determine the winners tomorrow and will provide valuable feedback to all finalists in order to help their projects grow.
The opening ceremony was welcomed by the Secretary General of the OAS, H.E. Luis Almagro; The Executive President of YABT, Luis Viguria; The President of the Board of YABT, Yadira Soto; PepsiCo Latin America Corporate Affairs Vice President, Monica Bauer; Jorge Familiar, Vicepresident for Latin America and the Caribbean of the World Bank; Carlos Joaquin Gonzalez, Governor of the State of Quintana Roo; And Socorro Flores, Deputy Secretary for Latin America and the Caribbean at the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs of Mexico.
Afterwards, the honorary panel had an official visit to the International Expo and appreciated the enthusiasm, creativity and productive capacities of young people through several of the innovative projects presented in this TIC Americas edition and its categories: Eco-Challenge, Startup Challenge, TIC Dominican Republic and the Caribbean Innovation Competition.
The Young Americas Business Trust (YABT), PepsiCo Latin America, the World Bank, CBC, Postobón, the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) and the Organization of American States (OAS) sponsor the Talent and Innovation Competition of the Americas (TIC Americas) and the Eco-Challenge 2017.
The awards ceremony will take place tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. as part of the closing program of the TIC Americas finals.
