Washington D.C., August 18th, 2016 - The Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) convene the youth of the region to participate in a virtual meeting to discuss the results of a series of youth dialogues developed in the framework of the 46th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS).
In this virtual meeting of the Young Americas Forum, participants shared valuable feedback to continue the development of innovative proposals that contribute to the consolidation of the mandates and priorities discussed by the leaders of the continent.
The meeting, coordinated by YABT, had the main objective of enabling strategic participation of young leaders in the region who pursue the same goal: growth of society with the active and ongoing participation of youth.
As part of the interventions, participants shared various proposals and initiatives that can be replicated in other countries and support the achievement of the goals set at the 46th General Assembly of the OAS.
In their role as agents of global change, young people raised their voice about: students working towards development, opportunities that can be granted to rural students, the vulnerable situation of young people near borders, and the use of art and sports as an empowerment mechanism.
They also reaffirmed the need to develop projects to promote entrepreneurship, employment and access to internships. Sustainable development was identified by the young participants as the basis of a promising future and where we must channel our actions.
"Thanks to a youth committed with the pillars of the OAS, and the prosperity of their countries, today we have active actors towards social, economic, ecological and political improvements in the Hemisphere. YABT will continue to promote initiatives of young people to achieve their goals, find innovative solutions to the challenges of today's world, and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)" said Edgar Maestre, Program Director for Latin America of the Young Americas Business Trust and moderator of the session.
