Panama City, September 26, 2016 - The Panamanian youth affirms that education is the foundation for a successful national development, and thanks to that arise the concern to discuss the challenges they face in terms of education that they brought in the 7th Discussion Let's talk about education, with the theme "evaluation: Road to quality". This event was organized by Youth United for Education with the support of YABT.
This time, the discussion was organized in order to raise awareness about the need to establish the evaluation process as a priority part in the national agenda. "Do without evaluated is losing the opportunity to prevent and correct" said Francisco Trejos, a member of Youth United for Education.
Knowing the need for a complete, efficient educational system and in coordination with other government agencies, we had the honored to have public and private institutions who contributed their knowledge on the issue in question. Dra. Mariana A. McPherson, Executive Secretary of the National Council of University Evaluation and Accreditation of Panama, focused their participation in the importance of evaluating, she said "... to face the current challenges is vital to have an improvement plan that achieves continuous international standards"
At the same time, Dr. Julio Escobar, former Director of the National Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation (SENACYT), said that the most important factor is when teachers get evaluatedfor the quality of the education system, obtaining constant feedback is crucial.
On the other hand, the Engineer Jorge Garcia Icaza, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama, mention that it is really important to change the culture starting with the inside values.
The discussion led to the exposure of different views through the present, noting the interest and concern that invades Panamanian society about the direction that leads the country's education system, providing ideas hailing a change and a real commitment by the institutions and civil society.
"Education in terms of quality is a challenge that deserves a commitment from every possible actor. Values education, both teachers and students, is essential for achievingpositive effects on society, allowing allowing to train young people able to face the challenges of the future ", said Edgar Maestre at the end of the event.
Undoubtedly, education has become the focus of discussion, chasinga common goal: the formation of young people with values for life in society.YABT will continue creating opportunities to enable the development of youth and to complement actions for a complete and quality education.
