Washington, DC, September 23, 2019 - The Young Americas Business Trust (YABT), the Organization of American States (OAS), and PepsiCo, are pleased to announce the 15th Edition of the Talent and Innovation Competition of the Americas ( TIC Americas), a hemispheric program that promotes the economic and social empowerment of young people so that, through innovative solutions, they can contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
TIC Americas is a pioneering program that supports and accelerates the innovative ideas and projects of young people ages 18 to 34 in the Western Hemisphere. The program goes beyond just presenting a business plan. It provides entrepreneurs with access to training, mentoring, key network contacts, investment opportunities, and other business resources to improve the strategy and consistency of their business models.
The teams with the best proposals selected by the judgesin the Semifinal phase, will receive a full scholarship to compete in the Finals, to be held in June 2020, in The Bahamas, recognized as the official entrepreneurship activity at the 50th General Assembly of the OAS. The winners will obtain seed capital, the prize of their category, presence at the Expo, media coverage of the press, and links with industry experts, government representatives, the private sector, and international organizations.
There are three categories to register proposals with innovative approaches and potential for growth:
With an emphasis on Inclusion and Development, encouraging in the investment in human capital in order to reduce the economic and social gap. In the times of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, where technology and innovation are affecting the future of jobs by modifying current business models, young people, businesses, and citizens in general, need to update their knowledge, skills, and mindset. This is how the Startup Challenge supports innovative solutions for Social, Financial, and Economic Inclusion.
Eco-Challenge 11.0 focuses on identifying scalable and sustainable ideas that allow us to go beyond the use of plastics, and to build a world in which they do not become waste by reducing, recycling and reinventing. For this, it will reward the best proposals through three sub-categories: Beyond the Bottle and the Bag, Recycling and PostConsumer use of BOPP, and the Caribbean Innovation Eco-Challenge.
Presented to entrepreneurs in the Caribbean and having the following priority areas: (a) Adaptation and (b) Mitigation. The CIC in this edition, has a special focus on Sargassum and Natural Disasters. It is also an opportunity to invest in the future of business, technology, and youth employment in the Caribbean.
Since its launch in 2007, there are already 45,109 young people who have registered 29,692 business, social, and environmental proposals, with around 380 Finalist teams participating in their different categories, and more than 500 experts from around the world as judges and mentors.
