YABT will participate in the High-level Meeting: “Social Dialogue With and for Youth” of the ILO

Washington, D.C., November 28, 2022. The Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) will be part of a select group of organizations around the world that have been invited by the International Labour Organization (ILO) to attend the High-level Meeting: “Social Dialogue With and for Youth”, to be held on November 29 and 30 in Geneva, Switzerland. In it, the ILO will present the findings of a recent report on this topic.

YABT will have an active and relevant role in the discussion of opportunities and actions to prioritize and insert the youth employment issue on the social dialogue agenda. It will be an opportunity to present the experiences and best practices of the YABT, as a pioneering organization responsible for bringing the voices of youth to spaces of political dialogue within the Inter-American System.

YABT will be represented at the Meeting by Cecilia Vilchis, Manager of Youth Leadership and Participation Programs, who will hold an open conversation with representatives of various organizations to address the major challenges of young people to influence youth employment policies, and community efforts to improve the inclusion of youth issues in policy making and implementation.

As part of the high-level meeting agenda, a forum will be held to discuss how social dialogue processes and outcomes address youth-related issues in different parts of the world, seeking to: (1) examine policy options to promote the inclusion; (2) encourage youth activities and representation carried out by workers’ and employers’ organizations and (3) highlight possible actions that governments and labor administrations could take to create an environment conducive to improving the inclusiveness and effectiveness of social dialogue.

This is one of the first results of this year’s collaboration between YABT and ILO, which are advancing in the consolidation of other initiatives that include the creation of a Commitment in the Global Initiative of Decent Jobs for Youth, connecting programs and resources of entrepreneurship and innovation within the framework of the Innovation Skills Mechanism, and attention in these issues to groups of displaced/migrant youth and in vulnerable situations.

YABT reaffirms its commitment to build alliances for development where youth are represented and benefited, creating spaces to exchange experiences and address solutions to common problems around the world, through the leadership and innovative capacity of youth.
