Youth Dialogue on Migration and Entrepreneurship

City of Lima, Peru, June 15, 2023. Around 40 young people will meet at the “Youth Dialogue: Migration, Development and Integration”, to be held this June 16 in a hybrid format, with the University San Ignacio de Loyola (USIL) in Lima as headquarters, as a result of a joint effort between the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT), USA for IOM, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Peru, and with the support of USIL and USIL Ventures.

According to the ILO, young migrants make up more than 10 percent of the overall 232 million international migrants. Given this reality, the Dialogue proposes to be a space for the exchange of best practices, reflections and specific recommendations to maximize the social and economic contributions of young migrants for the sustainable growth of their host communities.

The participants will address the importance of resilience and inclusive societies to create opportunities for participation and entrepreneurship for young migrants. The dialogue is projected as a vehicle to complement regional efforts for immediate attention and the generation of economic opportunities that are sustainable in the long term, through policy recommendations and specific actions to reverse the difficulties that this segment of the migrant population is going through.

A virtual consultation precedes the Dialogue to help collect baseline information to be discussed during the workshops, thus involving a greater number of young people during the process. In turn, it is intended that the participants acquire new skills and a methodology to multiply it in their own environments.

The report with the recommendations of the process will be a tool for regional efforts for immediate attention and the generation of sustainable economic opportunities in the long term to reverse the difficulties that this segment of the migrant population is going through.

This process responds to the Declaration of Commitment and Action Plan of the VI Young Americas Forum of the IX Summit of the Americas, and to political commitments of different consultation mechanisms with the participation of youth, from which the positive contributions of refugees and migrants to the socioeconomic development of their host communities.
